This place is great for pasta and Italian food. I work in the Gables and have been coming to this place for years, they have a lunch special that includes soup or salad, an entree and dessert, all this is also accompanied by a tomato bruschetta which is delicious. The lunch specials vary by day and overall the food is really good and the portions are just right, not too much and not too little, just perfect. The staff is nice and attentive and in the past have accommodated my request for minor substitutions. It is not easy to find parking in the area so I recommend that if you work in the Gables just go walking instead of driving.

The service is wonderful and the food is amazing--it's REAL. The sweet potato ravioli and the spinach ravioli are my favorites, my friend always orders their lemon chicken which is also incredible. The red wine that was chosen for me was not pricey and was perfect.

I have been here two times during Giralda Under the Stars event and both times they have failed to live up to the crowd. Not impressed with the service or the food. I don't think I will be back.

Absolutely amazing. I walked in with my husband and our mothers on a Saturday night. We were greeted with a friendly hello and we're quickly seated. The bruschetta was absolutely incredible! I asked for a fish dish for dinner, and was given a Snapper with champagne cream sauce as my entree!! I can't even begin to explain how amazing everything was tonight! Do yourself a favor and come and try for yourself!!

This place scores very high marks on service, cleanliness and price. The bruschetta and salad are phenomenal starters. The options for the lunch special limit it to one protein option, chicken marsala. I will not be reordering this dish, I'll leave it at that. The dessert included flan...not very Italian. Food: 2 stars Service: 5 stars Cleanliness: 5 stars Cost: 4 stars Overall: 3

My husband and I used to live on Miracle Mile, and would eat here 2-3 times per week. Great menu, and super friendly staff. I don't know why this gem isn't crowded every night. We're returning to Coral Gables after having moved 1200 miles away, and Castelluccio will be our first stop.

castelluccio is an often overlooked restaurant on gables "restaurant row". although ive dined there a few times, i always seem to forget about it and not sure why, bc i actually really enjoy it. the storefront is small and there is nothing fancy/stuffy about it like many of the other places in the area. they offer great lunch specials, for about $12 you get a choice of soup or salad, entree, and a small sample dessert. the lobster bisque is really good as is the traditional house salad. last time i was there i had the chicken marsala with a balsamic mushroom glaze that was awesome. the service is quick and attentive. and you get quality food for a great price.

Many friends referred us, but we never have experienced this place. Giralda Ave was humming in restaurant row, but this restaurant was slower than most...so we thought we'd try it. Greeted pleasantly, we sat "where ever we wanted." Menu was also pleasing. No wine list was offered, but wine was offered immediately "by the glass" upon sitting down. Stale, horrible, tasteless rolls were served. Next to appear at table side, was the chef? Specials were announced with much persuasion for fish and pasta specials. Everything sounded delicious. We started with a tuna carpaccio. Fresh, but totally tasteless. Needed a citrus garnish, fresh pepper, better tasting EVOO, just for starters. I went with the recommended fish special and hubby chose a pasta off menu. "Special" Fish, obviously frozen, was a total miss served with mash potatoes, decorated with a fried potato chip, and did I mention a third white potato dish. Hummm! Hubby's dish was delicious, but if an Italian restaurant cannot serve pasta, close the door. Service was great. Prices were great. Check presented with old wrapped hard candies that stuck to the wrapper. So, I'm thinking "room for improvement!" With so many incredible local bakeries, get better bread. Buy locally made butter. Fresh bread and butter always brings people back. Be more innovative with vegetables. It's Spring for goodness sakes. Chef, challenge your ability or read more recipes. Sad by this attempt to impress. Perhaps that's the reason for slow business. Won't go back.

We came here for a birthday dinner and the food was delicious. We all ordered different plates but my seafood risotto was very good. The flavors were full and it was the perfect portion. Their brushetta is out of this world! The server was friendly as well. Overall, deserves the 5 stars!

No stars... If there were rotten tomatoes it would be too much to place as a score. This place is infested with roaches, my menu had one roach inside and dwell around this disgusting place to eat... Please don't go there! It was the worst place I've been in years! YIKES!

I've been to Castelluccio easily over 30 times. It's one of my go-to lunch spots in Gables. The lunch specials are fantastic with $10 getting you soup or salad, entrée and dessert. Its hard to beat that deal, especially in Gables. Not only is the value great but the food is delicious and never disappoints. I've had everything from their ravioli to chicken piccata and have never been disappointed in the entrees. Their seafood soup is one of my favorite items along with the complimentary bruschetta. The only reason I can't give them five stars is because the deserts are usually very mediocre. When you get the lunch special, the desert is always a surprise and usually falls flat in comparison the rest of the food. Overall: great food, great value and great service.

My friends and I chose this restaurant for a friend's birthday surprise after I redeemed a $100 certificate from restaurant.com . After having some difficulty due to the mediocre wine selection, we settled for a bottle of Montepulciano d'Abruzzo. As appetizers, we ordered Calamari Croccant and two orders of Gamberetti e Porcini (shrimp and mushroom). Two orders of the mushroom appetizer were necessary! We each ordered a different entree. I had the Lamb Chops, but was highly disappointed. It was mostly bone and fat, the meat was almost not there. The sides were mostly vegetables with a bit of mashed potatoes. I made no complaints but was greatly surprised when they offered another side of potatoes. I gladly accepted. The other dishes ordered were Salmone al Apricot, Chicken Marsala, and Chicken Scampi. Everyone enjoyed his or her dish. I got a taste of all but the Marsala and thought they were good. When I had called earlier that day to make a reservation, I let them know that it was for a birthday. They said they would have a dessert on the house for the birthday girl. After singing to her, we all shared a tiramisu that they had brought to the table. When the bill came, we had not reached the $150 minimum that was required for the certificate, but they were kind enough to accept it. That was a plus! Overall, the place was pretty empty and the service was not bad. Maybe if I had not ordered the lamb chops, my rating would be higher.

Here's a good one! I've been eating regularly at Castellucio for dinner. They have the best stuffed raviolis I've ever tasted! The sweet potato being my favorite is something indescribable. Their staff is very well trained! If you're a Coral Gables local and haven't been in yet I highly recommend you do so. Have a plate of sweet potato raviolis for me.

Certainly not the place to come for if you are looking for "fancy" Italian food. Having said that, it is a solid place to get a good meal at a reasonable price. Seems I've been eating at lots of smaller places lately that run in the middle range market. I've been so disappointed by other places. Cheap food, bad service, cleanliness issues. Not the case here. This place is almost hidden. No big bright sign. Decor is due for some refreshing, but comfortable number of tables for the size of the restaurant. Service was fantastic. One guy serving multiple tables and I never felt ignored. About the food - first off, the bruschetta was delicious. Plain and simple. Perfectly toasted bread. Perfectly seasoned tomatoes. Next the Calamari was tender, tasty, and crisp. The marinara sauce tasted a bit like bottled sauce, but sprinkled with a bit of lime (lemon would be preferred, but we are in Miami) - I ate every last piece. They say they make the ravioli in house, we didn't have any, but the pasta dish we did order was good, not great, but completely edible...and enjoyable. A few fresh parsley leaves would have brightened the dish immensely. Next time I will try the ravioli...I may not rush back here, but I certainly won't walk by the place without thinking about the opening salvo...what is it about perfectly toasted bread?

Had dinner here during the monthly "Giralda under the Stars" Friday night event. The street was closed to cars and all the restaurants put their tables in the street. There was a jazz band playing on one end and a rock band at the other. Castelluccio was closer to the jazz band, the menu looked pretty solid, and there was a table available so it was a no-brainer. Shared the homemade pear ravioli in alfredo sauce as an appetizer with my date, then had the special osso bucco with champagne risotto and shared a chocolate souffle for dessert. A few glasses of Chianti too. Food and service were very good. The restaurant itself is nothing fancy, but the al fresco ambiance made it an enjoyable night.

Excellent service, Amazing food. Could not ask for a better place. My new "go to" place for Italian. The Bruschetta was the best I ever had. Anyone who says otherwise is a liar and a communist.

Delicious, fresh Italian food. Terrific and extremely fast service. Inexpensive. I forget about this restaurant because it's not trendy and super flashy but when it comes to great food and great prices, this is a must! Delicious bruschetta and I always get the fish here.

My wife and I went for Italian at our fav in the Gables, Anacapri. A private party was going on and we were offered seating on the second floor which we declined as that is where private parties are normally held, so we walked out and decided to give Castellucio a try. As others have reviewed, we were pleasantly surprised. The complimentary bruschetta was delicious indeed. The glass of wine I ordered was large enough that I did not have to order two as in most other restaurants. My wife had the grouper which she loved and I had spagetti & meatballs which was OK. The sauce was more orange than red like a vodka sauce and the pasta could have been cooked a little longer. The host/waiter although gregarious, never came over during the meal to ask how it was. Overall, it was fine dining experience; good ambiance and service. We will try it again and would recommend it.

One of our favorite restaurants, the food is great and the manager is always willing to make accommodations and adjust the menu to your taste with his own creations. There is nothing ordinary about this restaurant. Italian food is excellent, can't find it like this anywhere else.

I was invited to a business lunch at Castelluccio this past Monday and I was very pleasantly surprised. The restaurant is small but cozzy. It was full but we lucked out and found a table available immediately. Perfect timing. They had a lunch special deal for $10.99 that included soup or salad, a main course and desert. We all ended up ordering the same thing: a seafood+vegetable soup, Corvina fish with pasta and a flan. The Corvina was a large fillet lightly breaded in a light lemony sauce cooked to perfection but the stand out was the soup - simply delicious. This was an unbelievable value for twice the asking price. Top this off with a friendly, professional and engaged staff offering great service. Highly recommended. Will return.

Italian Cuisine

The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.

Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.

If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.
